MTSA
Facilities and vessels regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act use TWIC for unescorted access to secure areas. Under the U.S. Coast Guard TWIC Reader Rule, Risk Group A facilities and vessels must inspect TWICs electronically.
What the reader checks
- TWIC expiration
- Cancelled Card List status, without connectivity at the point of read
- Card authenticity and issuance by TSA
